Happy Friday everyone! A happy one indeed as it’s my 24th birthday. Whoo-hoo! Happy birthday to me as today I am my two favorites numbers; 2 and 4. The next time that gets to happen is when I’m 42. Well let me not get too ahead of myself there.
Today’s FFF is about two new blueberry products that I found. The twist for this Friday is I didn’t eat them as is. I experimented with them and made them into something else. You know I’m all about experimenting.
The first product is a fruit bar that I found here at a natural foods store. I use to be addicted to Nutri-Grain bars and also to Kashi’s cereal bars. Since I can no longer have either, I couldn’t have the fruit filled goodness. When I spotted Betty Lou’s gluten-free fruit bars, I had to try it.
The stats are a bit high in terms of calories, 180, for this small size that may take two or three bites. At least the fiber is pretty high at 5 grams. So what I decided to do was mix them into my blueberry “muffin top.” Instead of 2/3 cup of oats, I only added 1/2 and mashed the fruit bar into it.
The result? It tasted like a blueberry oatmeal muffin mixed with heaven. I totally have to do this again. It gave the “muffin top” a more cake like consistency, which I really liked. Topping it with almond butter just made it even better.
The other blueberry product I picked up was the blueberry muffin Lara Bar. I am not really a fan of Lara Bars (hate the way dates taste), but the only I can tolerate is coconut cream pie. Shocked?
Now you may ask, what did I do with this bar if I didn’t eat it straight up? Made little “balls” of course! It wasn’t as easy as the Clif bars to roll, so I added a tsp of cashew butter and rolled them in a little coconut flakes.
The results? To be honest, it didn’t really taste like anything except for the cashew butter I added and blueberry. It was a super light bar and didn’t keep me full till lunch. I had to eat an extra fruit to hold me over.
Like I said, the only Lara Bar that really keeps me satisfied is the coconut cream pie. Obviously, I wouldn’t by this bar again. I’ll stick to the coconut one. But I will definitely get those fruit bars again. Maybe I’ll try it alone or mixed into something else?
Question: Do you find that certain bars do nothing for you or even make you hungrier?
I found that the chewy Cascadian Farm granola bars make me hungry (not the crunchy ones), Clif kid’s bar (which I always eat with fruit or protein) and now this blueberry Lara Bar.

Totally agree with you on bars! They very rarely actually fill me up and a lot of times just make me hungrier! I do really like think thin bars though. I think a lot of the bars you mentioned that aren’t super filling have little protein so maybe that’s way you don’t get full!

Yes it is true. Lara bars done have much protein. I’ll stick to my Clif and Lunas lol
Thinkthin is AWESOME I’m just allergic since it has corn and peanuts
