FFF#9: New Gluten-Free Favorites: Part II

27 Jul

As promised, part two of my new gluten-free favorites. If you missed part one, then click here asap!

Food For Life Rice Pecan Bread: I first saw this bread on Tara Stile Eats a few weeks ago. Since then, thoughts of toast lingered in my mind. On my mini trip to Whole Foods I spotted the bread goodness and had to get it.She made a “smile toast” with chocolate almond butter and fruit pieces to make a smiley face. I had the late night breakfast cravings and decided to try it out with what was left of the vanilla almond butter and I added a big blob of fresh raspberries.

The results? Tasted like a stuffed French toast type of thing. The vanilla almond butter yumminess plus fresh raspberries, all on a warm slice of pecan toast. Simply divine. I ate it so fast that I forgot to take a picture, but you can imagine it, right?

CAN-nilla Vanilla Kid’s Protein Bar: There Is, or I should say was, a low-carb, sugar free and gluten-free store next to my job. I saw a sign a couple weeks ago that they were going out of business! That was truly depressing, since I would get the millet & flax bagels there.I stopped in so late, that there was barely anything left in the store, except for this bad boy. It’s a gluten-free kid’s vanilla protein bar. I was a little hungry, and when hunger talks, it always says buy me. I love that it had 9 grams of protein at 170 calories but it had virtually no fiber.

The results? It was surprisingly pretty delicious and it reminded me of the Thinkthin bars that I cannot eat anymore due to corn and/ or peanuts. I’m glad I bought two, because I don’t think I may find it again. Time to savor.

If you can find the protein bar, I would definitely recommend you try it, especially for the little ones. But definitely try to find the bread. It was really good and did I mention it only has FIVE grams of sodium per serving. Oh yeah.

Question: What healthy snacks do you feed your kids or siblings (or even yourself)?

I like to make healthy cupcakes for my brothers. Not exactly a snack, but they can feed themselves that. They are both over 18!
