WIAW #50: Feeling “Berry” Acidic

Happy What I Ate Wednesday!

What does this title mean? Well I am going to show you some of my delicious eats filled with all sorts of berries while talking to you about my acid and bile reflux. Head on over to Peas and Crayons if you are new to this awesome food party.wiawphotobuttonYou don’t know; ever since I started getting hyped up on coffee and had free coffee at my job, my body just went into acid overload. Not to mention I was eating TONS of chocolate and almonds. You see I get fed at my job, so I take advantage of chocolate and nuts since those are the “pricey” things I usually buy.

Breakfast: Oats w/ almond milk, flax/ sunflower seeds, cashews & blackberries

Breakfast: Oats with almond milk, flax/ sunflower seeds, raw cashews & blackberries.

Acid from coffee and acid + fat from chocolate and nuts equals a disgustingly acidic environment. I decided to tone down the coffee. I was tired of the acid/ bile build up. I have been coffee free for four days. Symptoms? I’ve had terrible migraines and caffeine withdrawal symptoms that make me sub the coffee with chocolate for the caffeine dosage, but it obviously makes things just as bad.

Snack: Blackberries w/ dried cranberries/ blueberries and cashew pieces.

Snack: Blackberries w/ dried cranberries/ blueberries and raw cashew pieces.

The withdrawal symptoms are getting better. Last week I said I was going to do a vegan week. I did most days meat and dairy free except when I had milk chocolate, some eggs and a little chicken. I did notice that I wasn’t as bloated as the week before but I was still uncomfortable. This week I wanted to get more strict.

Lunch/ Dinners: Veggie or Black Bean burger with nuts/ seeds and spinach.

Lunch/ Dinners (recycled pic!): Veggie or black bean burger with nuts/ seeds and spinach.

I’ve had two full vegan days and I feel pretty good, digestion wise. I’m as bloated and even people are noticing. I did find it hard to decide what to eat though. So as my loving readers, I do ask you to give me some moral support. Pretty please and crackers? Never mind the crackers…

Dessert: Dark chocolate with dried cranberries

Dessert: Dark chocolate with dried cherries

Question: What’s your favorite vegan dish? Have you every done a day or more vegan? How did you feel?

Nuts & Things

Hope ya’ll are having a fabulous Saturday.

I have been busy like I said; just too much going on. Never fear, I’m always near. Luckily a little bit of this every night helps my sanity. This stuff is too addicting. I will never buy it again, ever.20130510_003036Oh and more coconut breakfast cakes for breakfast? Yes please, but give me some cranberries, flax & sunflower seeds with a smidge of milk will ya?20130509_084437What about lunch? I think you are going to get a hoot out of this. How about some nuts, fruit and cheese?20130509_120425Or maybe throw in an egg?20130509_215527Or maybe no egg or cheese and use non-dairy cheese like Daiya?20130508_101050I guess you can say I’ve been lazy in that department, but I am too busy studying for this exam. I can’t beleive June 2nd is practically right around the corner.20130509_132652Okay, so I lied. The bathroom is actually right around the corner [*facepalm*], but you catch my drift. Have a great weekend everyone and I will soon be sharing some of the fun stuff I’ve been learning.

Question: What do you usually eat for lunch when you are too lazy to cook or put any thought into your meal? Fruit, cheese and nut plates are my number one for sure.

WIAW #49: The Return

You’ll probably notice that my last post was on Friday. To be honest, I just haven’t felt like taking pictures, posting or doing much of anything. Well that isn’t entirely true.

I’ve been busy with work and coaching people that every second I get I am either cleaning, prepping food, working out or trying to study for my personal training exam. Don’t take it personally if you don’t see much of me this month. I will try my best, but don’t worry I will be around.

For this What I Ate Wednesday, brought to you by Peas and Crayons, I show you a few eats I have devoured this past week. I have mostly been doing meat and dairy free. I’m eating lots of fresh fruits, green smoothies, nuts/ seeds, egg whites and black beans. Enough talking, on to the eats!wiawphotobuttonHere is a little grocery I did the other day; nut thins, milk, spinach, nuts, chocolate, pizza crusts, alfalfa sprouts, black beans and an Asian pear to try.
485462_10101561558975160_498631603_nLike I said, I’m trying to cut out my dairy and meat consumption but I will still be doing egg whites. The last “meat” meal I had was a lean beef burger made with the alfalfa sprouts. It was actually pretty good and I may try to make something like that again but maybe a black bean burger.603866_10101561558970170_897874997_nNext up for snack, I tried the Daiya cheese with some nut-thins and green grapes. The cheese is not bad but I definitely like it cool rather then cold from the fridge.  263166_10101561559035040_1121022344_nOh and not to mentioned topped with a pinch of parsley and fresh pepper.941619_10101561559040030_635330914_nFor dinner, I either do a salad or a “green smoothie.” This one has Vega protein powder, spinach, flax seeds and flax milk. It was not my favorite green smoothie since I wish I had some raspberries to blend in it too. Oh well, there is always next time.217026_10101561559064980_1901066250_nI’ve been trying to relax more now with these awesome Opium flower incense. Now that I am super busy, it seems like I can’t do everything I need to do in one day. Hopefully I can get some studying in before work. I need to study, asap!923067_10101561558965180_864322811_nQuestion: How is everyone’s week going? Are you super busy? I know some people have finals and if you do good luck. If you are done…? Yay!

Grocery Haul Monday

Normally, when I was a good little blogger, I was doing meal planning Monday. Well I sort of have that for you today, but more in a grocery haul style.

Yesterday I had a fun day with my mom. Yes, we have fun going grocery shopping. Too much I think. We first went to have lunch at the Burger Joint in Cross County Mall in Yonkers. The burger is so yummy and I love that they use hormone-free cows!943774_643506328996264_220329088_nWe walked around the mall and got some fun goodies. Of course, we had to stop in to get some froyo from Cups. I got a mix of vanilla, original, cheesecake and white chocolate macadamia. I topped it with honey, strawberries and pumpkins seeds.IMAG1172On to the groceries! Now as usual I have some eggs, rice, protein powder and organic cheese at home. I needed some more beans, milk, spinach and fruit. 941090_643675198979377_1316549275_n (1)And I found this awesome honey almond gluten-free find from Nature’s Path. It’s really good and tastes just like their regular granolas. I’m happy they did this; go Nature’s Path!943580_643675212312709_291758444_nAlso got some oats and nuts…578857_643675208979376_959531861_nOh and some delicious plain 2% Chobani. I am trying to cut down my sugars and going from 22g (most  flavored ones) to 7g (the plain ones) is a huge difference.577502_643675232312707_942040734_nI just added two tsps of agave to the Greek yogurt and added a little granola and pumpkin seeds and it was delicious. Plus a side of grapes for some extra sweetness.575438_10101555469653210_699461404_nMeal wise; I will be doing eggs, beans, rice and salads. Some chicken or beef here and their. Snacks is usually nuts, cheese and/ or fruit. Breakfast is some form of oats. That’s just how I roll. To conclude this food filled post, I hope everyone has an awesome Monday and rest of the week!

Question: How does this week look for you? Normal, stressful, extra busy or all the above? This week is busy for me. I start work this Wednesday and another new client on Friday. Woot!

It’s Been A While

Wow, I have finally updated with you on this!

I am quite behind on some of them but I will give myself some “lee-way.” and allow myself 5 things that I don’t have to do before I am 25, but I have to do it at some point while I am 25. Sounds good to me!

  1. Go to my SIXTH Broadway play (forgot I saw more!).
  2. See a comedy show with friends.
  3. Visit Boston and eat all day.
  4. Attend the personal training certification and pass!
  5. Visit a Vineyard and find a wine I like.
  6. Kiss a random stranger (and other crazy things, shh!)
  7. Take my parents out to dinner and thank them for all they’ve done for me.
  8. Take a trip somewhere, anywhere, ALONE.
  9. Finish reading at least FIVE books, not school related.
  10. Go hiking.
  11. Sign up for a 5k.
  12. Take my dad to a baseball gone, not in NEW YORK.
  13. Get a pair of sexy heels or dress
  14. Buy a good pair of jeans.
  15. Treat myself to a nice hotel.
  16. Start my coaching program.
  17. Complete a full week being solely vegan <–changed to Paleo.
  18. Have “x” amount of money in the bank.
  19. Get rid of half my wardrobe and donate it.
  20. Write a letter to my 40 year old self and open it then (love this idea)
  21. Learn how to let go and go with the flow.
  22. Be fearless, and get over my anxiety.
  23. Give new things a chance.
  24. *Personal-D*
  25. *Personal-H*

I have an idea as to which are going to get the “lee-way.” I’m still four books behind, so I think that may be one. I’ll try to read the 5 before summer is over at least. I still have some problems going with the flow, so I will definitely still be working on that. But I am learning.I went to grab some groceries yesterday with my mom. I also got organic turkey burgers, but stuck it in the freezer before I snapped said photo. Fruit, nuts, granola, milk, cheese, agave, some broccoli and a couple of Odwalla bars for myself. Can’t forget some coffee either. This one isn’t so bad, but I need to get my hands on Green Mountain Coffee. It’s expensive in New York. Maybe it’s time for another road trip? Oh and this has been my favorite snack.I just took 1 Tbsp of Almond Butter, 1/2 Tbsp of Vanilla Protein Powder and added milk til it got to a “dip” consistency. Sliced up a pear, oh my!

On that note, I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Vanilla & Almond Protein Squares (or “Truffles”)

I was craving a vanilla almond Luna bar and a Rise almond honey protein bar all in one. Don’t ask me how that craving came about, but I know I wanted them both. I decided to take one of my “truffle” recipes and came up with this yummy thing.IMG_20130403_122135This recipe is gluten-free and can be vegan if you use Earth Balance and a vegan protein powder. It literally took me under 10 minutes to make. It’s even faster if you already have caramel sauce in the fridge. You know I have some ready; you just never know.IMG_20130403_104948Vanilla & Almond Protein Squares/ “Truffles” Ingredients (Inspired by this recipe)’

  • 1 1/2 Tbsps of Almond Butter (I used Justin’s Maple)
  • 1 Tbsp of the Homemade “Caramel” Sauce (makes all the difference! Or try 2 tsps of coconut oil. It may change the taste, so beware! Or do an oz. of melted dark chocolate (pictured first and it’s really good!).
  • 1 Scoop of Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 1 tsp of Pure Maple Syrup (or Agave)
  • 1/4 tsp of Vanilla Extract
  • Filling (optional): sliced almonds, dark chocolate chips, etc.
  • Coating: Roll truffles into vanilla protein powder or your choice*

Prepare the “caramel” sauce before making this recipe. Place nut butter in the microwave for about 20 seconds if you need to softened. Then mix the first five ingredients to form a soft “cookie” dough, that can be made into a square or ball either using your hands or melon scooper.

If too thick, add more “caramel” sauce. If too liquid-y, add more protein powder. Then add your choice of filling, if you want an extra crunch. These pictured don’t have anything inside, I just ate then with almonds on the side.

Then take the mixture and make into two squares or four truffles and roll in your choice coating*. I used vanilla protein powder, but have fun with it. Make it your own. Maybe even try and dip it into dark or white chocolate for a decadent treat!IMG_20130403_104917Question: What’s you favorite Luna, Rise or protein bar?

I’m going to say Luna’s vanilla almond (duh), the Rise almond honey protein bar (duh x’s two) and thinkThin’s dark chocolate. I just can no longer eat that one because of the peanuts. Boo.

The Day Before…

It’s the day before I head to Puerto Rico…

I have to say, I am a bit nervous because I haven’t been on a plane since my 22nd birthday. Uh I am am turning 25 this year so it’s been a while. I think I’ll be okay? Some snackies will be sure to curb the jitters.IMG_20130303_231506Today is also the day I go to the doctor’s, as usual. They are going to check on something and I will for sure let you know how it goes. I am not suppose to eat for eight hours before. Meaning I won’t eat til like 3:00pm. When I get out, this is going straight in my tummy!IMG_20130303_230906Since I know there probably won’t be a WIAW, this was my favorite breakfast this week. I know what you are thinking… “Sabrina, you OVER roasted the broccoli.” I know guys, but it tastes way better.
IMG_20130303_094845I also made some more truffles but this time I added 1 tsp of freshly grinded coffee and sprinkled some almonds on top. They were so good and I definitely be making that combo again.IMG_20130303_150105Okay, I am off to the doctor’s… Wish me luck!

Question: Sometimes burnt is better right? I like to have burnt pizza, burnt burgers. Or am I the only weirdo?

Kicks & Giggles

I just have to start out with this ridiculous picture. Remember the purse that I bought with the monkey? Well I put the monkey in my car and I just realized it had a thumb and hole in mouth. My silly butt, decides to be a clown. I nearly died laughing.IMG_20130302_121018Oh and when I went into some public bathroom that was ready for an Alien invasion of toilet paper. Highly unlikely, but at least they are ready!IMG_20130301_095007This cat. Does he really think he fits in my suitcase?IMG_20130301_223037This thing is deadly. I ate the whole bar in one day. I must try to recreate this into a mousse or truffle. Totally delicious and very addicting.IMG_20130302_161501On a healthier note, I tried this bar and I must say, it was so decadent, it kind of tasted more like a candy bar with some “extra” benefits. I will definitely get it again. This was my emergency snack, by the way.IMG_20130301_232940 And even healthier? I had this as a post snack (raw cheddar cheese, grapes and mixed nuts) from doing Yoga. This time it was more intense, plus I was going to do a jog and ab workout. I needed some yumminess.IMG_20130302_112641Question: How was your weekend? Any silly things you’ve done? Any yummy things that stood out this week that ya ate? Tell me, tell me!

Hi [Paleo]Ho!

It’s Friday!

And that means in a few days I will be going to Puerto Rico! Oh my, did I forget to mention that? Yes I am going to visit my grandma and also my cousin is getting married! It should be a good time. Let’s just hope there is no crazy family drama. *Crosses Fingers*

I have a few random things for you. I did a mini Paleo grocery shopping the other day and here are a few of the goods. I know not all of it is 100% Paleo, but hey, I do what I can.IMG_20130226_124025You can see some almond butter hiding in the corner and I also got raw cheddar cheese. Oh and not to mention a pint of this. It may or may not have been gone in the very same day.IMG_20130226_124101Not only does the above Ritter Sport chocolate not have any soy, but neither does this delicious milk chocolate bar I found. It was kind of pricey for the size, but you know me and I need a treat.IMG_20130226_125013Moving on… I went to yoga one day this week. It was really nice but honestly, I like my weight lifting.
IMG_20130226_163356
Look at how strong I am getting. 150lbs? Say what! I’m just a gym rat, what can I say?IMG_20130221_132455Oh and look at this little guy… I don’t know why but this picture makes me DIE laughing. He looks part fish, don’t you think? Or am I just crazy?IMG_20130228_112103Oh and to show you that I can eat other veggies, here is some broccoli. But I am sorry, spinach was on this same plate the very next day, ha!IMG_20130228_084126Question: Anything random in your week? Are you a gym rat? Like yoga? Hate it?

Happy Friday!
